I didn't know much about Mr Weber until recently. I have been looking at some of his work. Most recently his website. I think you'll find he is full of secrets. What do you think? What do you like?
Lets have some views on one of the most influencial fashion photographers of today, a great photographer and film maker, will we ever see a bographical film about his life and work.

Are we really talking about Bruce Weber? Bruce Weber is responsible for some of the most bland uninteresting images I have seen in ages. But I am willing to have my mind changed on this subject so if Sebastion could explain why he advocates Weber and his work I would be really intrigued.
Personally I think you need to look at the work Of Guy Bourdin and then come back to this discussion - his life would make a much more interesting film too
I agree with Max (Not from W4, by any chance ?). I find his work to be quite generic ... and now my mind draws a blank on who i find inspiring.
It doesn't always matter what the photograph is of or depicting. Perhaps the story behind the image is more interesting. Photography for me anyway is an introspective thing. I don't really care if someone doesn't like my imagery because I think it goes way beyond whether something is boring or not. It's like a smell or scent - whether good or bad it's the memory attached with the smell that is more interesting. I think Bruce Weber is a quiet man just getting on with his work.
Thanks Max for your note, Bruce weber, weather you like his work or not has set the standards for photography for the last twenty to thirty years, I am not interested in looking behind the mask of people as someone else has stated here also. In a world where a lot of image making is based around the destructyive element of clubs and lifestyle Bruce Webers work is a poetic release looking at healthy looking people at one with the world around them, A lot of destructive creatives are covering the world from there angle and possibly adding glamour to there destructive life processes. for otheres to follow, so I think a poetic vision of beauifull people at one with the world in almost the Greek Claassic sence is a breath of fresh air. The fact that the man has been around for so long also sais a lot about what the industry and people think so as much as you want to attack my views it is all self explenetary,I have been looking on the net for Guy Bordin and would like to see his work and what he is about, how can I get hold of him

I think Bruce Weber's work is beautiful, he likes to capture real women, even if you give him beautiful models, he likes to find the emotions on their faces, a bit like photo journalism, although the settings were highly control.

HI Sebastion,
Guy bourdin had a retrospective at the V&A a while back so it might be worth looking on their site and in fact show studio I think did a bit on his work.
As To Weber being an innovator - I really don't think that he is. I love that you are so passionate about his work but in my mind his work owes a huge debt to people like Leni Riefenstahl - especially her film triumph of the wil. Personally I think Weber's work is slightly offensive as everyone is all so falsely happy and generic - if you like healthy natural pictures of people having a good time look at the work of Elaine Constantine who I think has a better eye.
In terms of Weber being around for so long find that maybe down to the fact Weber's a jovial man who does his job and gets on with people - sometimes people can be good at their job but don't necessarily have to be innovators to sustain a position.
I guess I mixed up Bruce Weber and Peter Lindberg, their styles are very similar, techniqually, and I lke them both.

''with the world in almost the Greek Claassic sence is a breath of fresh air''
''having set the standards for photography for the last twenty to thirty years''
I think a lot of his photography is very conservative and everything but ''a breath of fresh air'', eventhough his photographs exude a ''fresh air'' feeling, i'll give you that. My problem might be with his objects of interest, i'm not specifically drawn towards his gender specific beauty ideals, at all. He has a very ''clean'' eye, technically and thematically speaking, i do not have a problem with the technical aspect, but the content is full of displaying generic, standard stereotypes, imo, and that i don't find inspiring.
What standards are you exactly speaking of ?
