the idenitiy of the ethnic minoritie mix has changed from jewish to asian,class differences are as entrenched as they ever have been,there are still servants although it not correct to call them that ,other names being invented to protect the not so innocent...the speed of the traffics the same...
economic,social,and political forces all work to the detriment of the individual...if you survive your never unscathed,however,if your a creative and your unfulfilled search for self-expression doesnt kill you like a lot of my friends...and you can find an outlet for that expression...and take photographs....then the pictures may not be like mickey mouse,walt disney ,or david lehighchaparell.

i just wrote a semi eloquent email and lost it looking up sebastian's website! anyway - i dont know diddly i squat about photogarphy or about half of what you professionals are harping on about,but being slightly p8ssed thought i wouold put in my penny's worth. i am grateful for showstudio for introducting me to alice hawkins,. i love her stuff. i like the fact that all her subjects seem to really trust her and appear at ease in front of her lens,. she seems to work people to their best and for that i raise my glass and give three cheers to the girl. and her fanwa shave pics inspired gucci to rip her off - how more influential at that age can you be?

Surly this is what makes us individual creative, We can all see other photographers in a dffrent light to others so to speak, otherwise we would possibly be creativly similar.
Sorry if I miss read you Flux,and I agree, some people seem to have a pashionet hatred to other photographer and in some cases towards the views of others,(THIS IS NOT AIMED AT ANYONE DIRECTLY BY THE WAY)The photographer I mentioned in here, I do not hate, I am envious of, as I would love to get in to some of the working situations, and be able to have some of the models, even though I have already been privilaged to work with some beautifull people.
I would love to be in the position of being able to travel ,and take pictures.
,As a photographer I do not think that this guy is techincally very clever,(thats my view) and I have seen similar, AND IN SOME CASES BETTER work done by students.

Yes, Alice Hawkins. She has a real eye for people and situation, a real curiosity shines out of her pictures.

There is nothing wrong in any of us seeing other photographers as being better in some way than others, after all that is the freedom of creative choce, does not mean that any of use are right or wrong.

was i imagining something or did somebody write a prayer out on this thread last night and ask what faith had to do with fashion photography?i think it was somebody called poty.....weird as i was just about to reply i do like prayers....but not the supersticious stuff about emailing them on to 24 people in the next four minutes ...who have to forward to 48..in the next two minutes.........

To follow fashion is analagous to following football, "fashionista" substituting for "hooligan". The same stupid, slavish mentality is brought to bare - and the same knee-jerk fascism is the result. The confusion of getting it "right" or 'wrong" (although politically always, eh, Right, if you get me...) is the driving force behind an entire industry, and so the only possible fashion photography is a kind of critical documentary, How we terrorized these idiots into wasting their lives contemplating the stupidest possible shit, and how we taught them to sneer at people who didn't play.

A photograph translates a state of affairs into symbolism. Broadcasting this symbolism creates an idealism of it. Typically we compare our private symbolism ("home", "Mother", Christmas) unfavourably with the ideals we see in the media. We're not good enough - when really, we're just a bit different, but most people assume that means they're wrong.

I've just learned to play "the people who grinned themselves to death" on the guitar, and i heartily recommend that you all look up the lyrics on the internet. Although it's ostesibly about the Queen and Thatcher, the viscious sentiment pertains to fashion in general.
