Another thing about many of the famous photographers is that many of them never went to art school, never learned how to take pictures through the academy way, and many of them who did go to art school and later on became fashion photographers never studied fashion photography as a major.

He used a strong light in this series of portraits to frame his subjects, a brilliant solution to make it different. So many photographers have shot portraits, the challenge is always-how to make this portrait a bit different, and lighting is always very challenging in shooting standard portrait. Most of the time the commercial portrait photographers work are very standard looking, because I think the lighting they use is often too even, too safe and conservative.

If you know any back story to any of the famous photographs, would love to hear them.

Photos by Corinne Day

I find the intriguing aspect of this famous series of photos is that the photos themselves are not extraordinary, they are technically good, simple in composition, sort of anti fashion, street looking documentary style photos of a simple looking girl, but the photos were published at the right time, and Corinne Day casted the right model, Kate Moss had the right look, and she was able to add to these photos an endearing quality.

There are many fashion photographers around that have a great eye
for beauty and simplicity ... and Anna Nygards is one of them .... poetical .

At the other end of the scale I enjoy very much Justin Cooper's iconic reference and sense of light ....

David Seidner 1998

He worked for Yves Saint Laurent and one of my favourite of his series of portraits is the one with the beautiful Helena Bonham Carter ... Love that exquisite contrast!

Ellen Von Unwerth

Her work is almost the mirror image of Helmut Newton's, in your face sexuality from a woman's point of view

Steven Meisel
His work always has beautiful subtle tone and I love the feel of slight graininess he has in his images.
