Sorry but I guess you miss read my message again Ben?, I was not comparing Nick with Rankin and I think that it is a bit visious and bitchy to go down that line in a creative website.
What I was saying is that to come up with the creative consept of Dazed And Confused for what ever reason has been boundary breaking for creative fashion and art media in this Country and possibly across the world. even though the Face got there first in a diffrent style.
I dont think that I was comparing anyone against each other.
Why do you seem to dislike rankin so much, without personaly attacking him?
Ben I dont think I need to talk to you again, as said before you asre very good at knocking people, and I refuse from now on to get in to verball and boring battles with you. You have a problem which is non constructyive, I left the chat room before becouse to be honest I was sick of your coments and not very clever snide remarks.
This website I hope is all about creativity and rubbing of productive ideas and heling each other, not getting in to personel and childish verbal battles?

There is no verbal battle there, as a publisher I think Rankin has done a good job, as a photographer I think he has done wonders for the sales figuires of ring flashes, and wanting to be David Bailey. Sebastion opinions are the one thing you have which are your own, the world is not a bubblegum palace and it's ok not to like things sometimes. Please don't cry.

Now, now boys. Let's avoid this descending into a slagging match and see if I can fill in a few details (from my holiday in New York, I should add!).
Nick wasn't a founder of i-D, but an early contributor. I believe that he first approached Terry Jones about his 'Skinheads' project and it was he that advised Nick to turn it into a book. Nick was later (early 90s, I think) asked by Terry to act as the picture editor of i-D when Terry was very focused on the launch of a Japanese version of the magazine. He did it for something like 9 months.
Sebastion, Nick speaks very well about the colour experimentation work you refer to in an interview we did for Yohji Yamamoto's issue of 'A Magazine', which accompanies his retrospective exhibition that was on in Florence and Paris this year. There is a Paolo Roversi shot of Guinevere on the front and I'm sure your local art school library could get in a copy or some such.
As for Rankin, you can't knock what he (and all those at Dazed and Another) has achieved in terms it being something of an creative empire. For which Nick often works, you will have noted.

Thanks Penny for the possitive and very informative not, I will try and get the College to get a copy in. I hope that Dazed, Another Mag, Another Man Mag and i-D keep pushing further with the boundaries of creative interpretation in fashion and art media, which is leaving a great mark across the world, as well as setting trends and boundaries as the Face did for many years.
It does not matter how a person gets the results they are looking for, or what lighting they use as long as the results are what they are looking for within there identity of style.
And good. Good Luck Seb.
Hope New York was productive for you.

Sebastion, I'm not sure why you take opinions so personally. People get passionate about voicing their likes and dislikes because it's FUN. The danger is making it personal or taking it personal. As far as I know, nobody has personally attacked you..?
I hope my crazed rant on why I think Noam Chomsky's overrated didn't insult you or anything because that wasn't my intention.
I for one hope you stick around here and keep sharing your views.

He is right though, you do take things so seriously. Chill out and please don't cry.
I agree that Rankin has built an empire of fashion Penny, I was never doubting that, I am just not interested in him as a photographer - I find his work incredibly boring and very obvious. Lighting wise he is very dull, and content of all the fashion work I have seen of his likewise. Unfortunatley he seems to think he is IT, and MY OPINION is that he most certainly is not.
Sorry Sebastion if this statement upsets you.
