I don't think there's a line between personal and commercial(public), when I do contract work, I try to make it as personal as possible, to make it meaningful to me, not just going through the motion, although the vision doesn't always comes from me, I am just the collaborator, but I still give as much of my personal point of view into the project. Loulou de la Falaise, just being around YSL, she became a collaborator with him, the line between work and personal passion for her is completely blurred. Karl Lagerfeld, his life is works of art, there's no personal or public, it's all personal. Don't we all want that for ourselves? That's why we are artists working in the creative field, not acountant or selling real estate, although that's a passion for some people as well.
