A lot is going on in todays society. We read about really serieous and big things in the newspapers like the war in Irak or global warming. These are really important en big issues that affect society worldwide and we should worry about that. But nowadays also actions that we maybe shouldn't pay much attention to like great moviestars or singers getting their nose or boobs done are having an effect on society. Making people like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan society' s new rolemodels. Not wearing any panties, having at least one mugshot taken of you and going to rehab is becoming chic. We live in a very visual culture, an image, a photo tells us so much more than words. This blog is all about discussing what is going on in the world by observing and analyzing fashion photography. In what way is fashion photography a storyteller of what is going on in todays society? What do the fashion editorials or campaings tell us about the world we live in? Has anybody else an opinion about this?

I think the way women have been portrayed has changed throughout history, as far as fashion photograhy go. I think "sex and the city" really has had a profound affect on how models have been shown in magazines, the kind of lightness and naunty intelligence seems to be the trend started by Sex and the City and is still being felt in fashion photography. They way the characters dress, especially Carrie in "Sex", is still influencing fashion of today.

I think Gareth Pugh has had a profound effect on how people dress , his clothes for sure, but also the man himself. I see loads of spindly floppy fringed young Gareth clones on the streets of London .His gentle , surreal and self effacing way of being are traits I would be happy to see more of in society.

Interesting thread ! .... for my particular case I think that apart from helping people to get away, escape from the whole mess created by politicians who by allowing the for ever deadly cocktail of ' confused thinking ' by letting religion and politics to dance to close for comfort .... the dance of the ' SEVEN VAILS'..... I think, ( in my very personal opinion) ... it says that we want to be left alone ! to borrow Garbo's famous PLEA ...and lets us get on with OUR BUSINESS !! ... of enjoying life the way we want to and wish to ... without all that FASCIST like INTRUSION !

I for one cannot wait the day when I can open the news and read something totally different about what's going on OUT THERE !..... and what a relief to know that our sanity is not jet totally gone !.... therefore to me personally FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY is just a wonderful way to ... fly to the realm where WOMAN, ART and MUSIC aren't the subject of annihilation !! and there I end by saying .... LONG LIVE FASHION but with the 'F' of..... FERTILITY !
