........there you have a good point when it is about food and jewelry a different field with different aims.......and then the client's poor judgement about printing that can spoil the result...........

Most often it is poor budget. We've no qualms about achieving creative quality. Everyone wants the best creative quality. To such a point the clients want their own input to make it personal to their business. In business it is always the lower budget that counts most, better still for them if it is a freebie.

I don't know how much similarity there is over in your part of the world. For every photographer here who's gone the usual way of professional training or studied and practiced photography as a professional trade, there are likely about 8 to 10 hobby photographers who decided to turn pro in the last 5 years who would offer freebies just to gain some exposure, and out of that 10, you may get just 3 candidates that are up to scratch with their knowledge of the printing technology if you're lucky.

Mediocrity does reign easily when a medium becomes extremely popular or easily accessible, though in proportion it would have just gone down in standard by just a small notch. Best part of it is that talents are given a chance more easily to display their works and abilities and I could do more for less.

Printing plays a very large part in the end product of fashion or any commercial photography. I just started another thread on the problems of working in the commercial field and perhaps should have just continued here. Talents alone isn't enough to create master piece that would end up in print-you need to work with clients that would support that kind of talent and creativity, and don't think they always welcome too much creativity, lots of them are really safe and conservative. Then your work need to be printed by really good quality printer. We perhaps are into different topic now but it seems natural to talk about printing since so much fashion photography are seen in the print medium. BillySoh, it's not that much different in the US and anywhere else for that matter.

Today I did some shots(products)and during the shooting one photo on screen was looking good, then the client looked at it and told us to cut down on the drama of the lighting, was afraid it would overpower the product, so we did, and I would have to try in photoshop to bring out the drama in particular spots instead of overall atmosphere. The clients sometimes only care their product looking clean and clear and without too much fancy creative stuff. Digital photography made it really easy for clients to ask you to change something because even they know in photoshop you can do, and in commercial field one has to learn to deal with compensating your creativity with client's demand-all the time, it's constant negotiating. Another time we did fashion shoot of scarfs, and we got some really beautiful shots, and the client finally chose the most conservative one to run.

Hi guys...
I use be a 35mm camera assistant(Motion Pictures). Now I embrace technology and is much faster to deal with than film. About creativity It all depends on you. The media does not matter.
Please copy and paste this link and check my latests video done with a Panassonic 100 24p digital camera.

that's really pretty what a small camera can do nowadays.
I do embrace technology whenever I can.
