The reason I stayed in the South West of England rather than re- locate to London is so that I could use the landscape as much as possible for my work.
The area I live has possibly some of the most diverse landscape in the Country from moors to rivers woods to the sea.
Since moving to Plymouth to study photo and T.V Merdia in 1992 I have met a weatlth of variety of people that it has been a privilage to record with my camera.
The last few years has been a time and finanshall investment in order to bulid up a body of work and define a style of working.
I will not post any more pictures after this series for a while as I feel that it is for others to show there work as well.
This series ,looks at the alternative side of male culture in Plymouth.
In 2000 I went to a club which has since changed its name called Charlies Bar. Charlies bar,( now called the Voodoo lounge) was the cultural centre for the Plymouth gothic scene, I met a guy who called him self spider man there.
Over about three years I took pictures of Spider as he changed his style from gothic and other variations, to a more conformist style.

This picture of Spider was taken about three 4 years ago when he was really in to the spiderman clothing style.
Spider is very well known and popular on the alternative club scene.
The graffit behind him is part of a series in the Bretonside bus station .Plymouth

Spider is still a bit of a celebrity on the Plymouth alternative scene, I bumped in to him last week on a visit back from Cyprus where he now lives.
He tells me that he intends to live there permanently and was just back on a visit.

Edward is also very popular with the ladies of Plymouth, it is said for more reasons than one.
The gothic and alternative scene is quite big, but at the same time very close.
As mentioned before a lot of them hang around the City Centre socailsing on a Saturday.

Garry and his Girl Friend I met this Summer,he was walking on Plymouths water front and I saw the tattos and asked him if I could take a series of pictures.
Garry and Jemma both 18 used to be part of the gothic scene till earler in the year and then moved away from it so that they could have more time to them selves.
