Over the last two years fashion photographer Candice Falmer has been building up an image bank of photographs of Celebrites taken under water, aimed at a book publishing.
I saw the results of some of these pictures in the Sunday Times magazine yesterday, and thought that they where stunning.
Candice was at college in Plymouth the same times as me, before moving to London to specialise in under water fashion photography. The pictures include shots of Keira Nightley.
(a Fantastic angelic picture) Judge Jules shot under water in a pool in Ibiza.
I think that Candice is still a photographer to keep an eye on for the future, producing work at such a high standard as this is truly outstanding

please dont take offence but it seems the only real reason you have mentioned this is because she was on the same course as you...
she is a very good underwater photography, but other than that it is just standard advertising work.
not fashion and not art.
no real reason to mention it here.

I would disagree with most of what you have sauid Paulus, if you know anything about taking under water photographs and the complications of setting it up, and the way she has created very good images at the same time then I think that looking at some of the pictures she has crerasted some very good pieces of fashion art. I know that under water photography is well used in areas of France for taking underrbwater portraits, but not much used in the UK, where it is very specialised.
Re reading your statement I would totaly dis agree with you, sorry paulus.

Personally I'm not a fan. I think it all looks very dated and straight out from the 80's. I don't like the way you can see too much of the pool (particularly the mosaic tiling), I think the set design is poorly thought out (the ill place leaves and shrubs) and the lighting is too harsh. I've seen alot of underwater photographers and most being executed to a much higher standard. I find alot of photographer's, because they have photographed someone famous, they believe it gives them instant credibility. Which I believe is very untrue a famous person doens't make your work good! If you replaced Keira Knightly with a test model would it have the same appeal?

That's funny, I thought 80's was back in generally at the moment. Perhaps not?

Depends which part of the 80's you pick, there's good 80's and definitely bad 80's! If someone says a decade has come back in does that automatically make it good again? It looked bad then and I think it looks bad now! If you "bring back" a decade surely it shouldn't be just exactly what we wore, photographed etc it should be updated, which I don't think her imagery is.

Christ! At risk of posting 'off topic', can't we discuss Frances Farmer instead? Surely she was the better photographer?

In reply to Sandrine:

I have only seen the work of hers that you have shown me, and I like it.
It has a more old Hollywood style to the lighting technique.
