First supermodel, died on Monday at the age of 91. She was 27 when started modeling, and only 5'5" tall, was told by Diana Vreeland to never touch those wonderful eyebrows of her. She was the older sister to another supermodel Suzy Parker.

Dorian's younger sister Suzy who was 14 at the time was told by Eileen Ford that she was too tall(hard to believe, isn't it, when today the standard runway model height is 5'9"). But Diana Vreeland was not bothered by her height she immediately put her to work.
Diana Vreeland really had a creative eye for spotting talents, she never followed any conventional beauty rule. She took in Dorian Leigh, Suzy Parker, gave Lauren Hutton a chance when many agencies had turned her down because of the gap between her front teeth and her nose wasn't considered delicate enough.

In reply to Galileo's Universe:

All great models understand body language, and how to manipulate their bodies, and how their bodies could create interesting, dynamic shapes. Why models need to be so tall? It's all about proportion anyway.
