I thought it would be appropriate to comment on the legacy of Yves Saint Laurent, who died Sunday (June 1st). He dominated 20th century fashion. What do you remember, what did you love?

I loved his peasant look and wore it. I felt like a peasant queen. It was my first step into the world of high fashion and it was life changing.

M. YSL was a perfectionist in proportion, he created the best cut and fabricated suits for women, he did that before Armani. I think the suit is perhaps one of, if not, the most difficult things to create and perfect.

He was indeed a genuine star of fashion and an absolute icon ! .... rare to find... and as a true star he was bid farewell !..... YSL was a very caring person after all , who broke many moulds in a time when moral codes were strictly observed .... in that respect we could say that he was a true revolutionary but in his own very elegant terms that being modern doesn't necessarily mean to be of bad taste ...

Elegance and emancipation did seem to go together in his very creative mind, commerce of course was the basis of his entrepreneurship but with the very fortune for his unique talent that he was not chained to the whims of the big dictates of giant conglomerates as most designers are today .... as to have forced him to compromise his personal vision and his unique style... that again sets him apart from the rest somehow in a special way...
His love for women was so genuine that he would do nothing more and nothing less but to create to exalt , empower and celebrate the beauty
of women .... his love for women does seem to have been his strength and although he was a very shy personality he never lacked the guts to
be innovative and controversial as history can tell....

My favourite shot ever is that of Mick and Bianca Jagger's wedding at
Saint-Tropez ... and every time I look at that picture I cannot stop thinking , considering the times it happened, how beautifully sexy.... shocking and daring it all seemed and yet how tastefully simple and elegant Bianca's outfit looked and still looks today ! ... timeless ! .... that was YSL's secret : timeless, simple, sexy, feminine, modern and totally unpretentious elegance ..... something absolutely impossible to emulate in today's world .... an a giant task for Stefano Pilati when trying to take the house of Yves Saint Laurent forward ! .....
Tom Ford must be feeling relief and happy that he is no longer responsible of that impossible to create formula that YSL managed to put together and with absolute success ... A Fashion Wonder A !
