Completely by chance, I rediscovered this about a week ago...

INTRO
"Is fashion finally looking to the future, or at least existing in the present? Have the PoMo reruns ceased and has the endless pop culture nostagia finally come to an end?"

QUOTE: Giorgio Armani
"Designers have recently relied too much on paying homage to the past - and doing this literally. [...] But fashion is about change and progress. It is as much about where we are going as about where we have been."

QUOTE: Helmut Lang
"At the moment fashion swings between dark and light, pessimism and optimism. [...] But because of the lack of strong social movements so far in this century, fashion cannot have the same impact. There are some very good collections but there is no "ideology". Fashion cannot be more modern than the times."

QUOTE: Miuccia Prada
"The work we are doing in the Prada Foundation is now trying to break through those gallery and museum boundaries. In many ways it's very difficult because people don't seem to have a utopis to aspire to; they don't have a dream or political ambition. [...] People don't know what they want. That's why we are working mainly with philosophers at the moment [...]. There has to be the sense of something big, importrant and not superficial, of something complicated and very human. That spirit is need. Those big ideas always look for a new and beautiful aesthetic to go with them."

Are we perhaps on the road to give an extra dimension to FASHION by adding to it a real sense of purpose next to its very basic role of just covering us with vanity ?.... after all we cannot ignore the big changes going on today all around us in the matters of .... wasting to much waste ..... Promising !!

I have been wondering about using something like this for night time cycling...

http://www.elshine.it/inglese/magictapes.htm

If it was used as an applique or accessory it could be fashionable and functional. Just a thought.

I had no idea materials like this existed! If you do something with it, let us know?

Check this out.
Ok, so most of it is terribly tacky.
But it does give me so many ideas of how reflective material could be used in fashion.

Or even these:

"Fashion" helmet covers.

It does give inspiration.

Either way, sorry if this doesn't help.
Just thought i'd give an input :)

peace x

It's very nice of you to contribute .... yes indeed they can often get it aesthetically wrong ... and the result can be ... ' pretty ' tacky ! :):) and extremely flimsy .... it reminds me of Christina Aguilera's styling in her coming out video ! ...
I was cycling the other day and I saw a lady who had decorated her bike with reflective material but not using just strips but instead cutting the material in patterns ... the colour scheme was perfect and very funky and no matter what... she was there to be noticed even through the fog ...LOL ! ... that I call inventive ! ... just another way to get the same result ... in the matters of safety with style ....
