..I know I know...some people would think...' what is he talking about ? ' .. ....LOL !

But my perception seems to tell me ( after having watched most of the ' KEY ' designers and MEGA players in 'ACTION' )....THAT.....some designers seem to be living their own fantasies...as in ' away from total reality '...Some have not move on and seem to be stuck with their past.......some seem to be lost in their maze of ' ice cream-sugar cones........Some seem to perpetually think that women are still leaving in the stuffy 40's/50's ....as in ' Grace Kelly goes to picnic '....Some are just focussed on what ' their clients really...really... want ' no harm in that .......and some are just there to perpetuate their own image....their glorified image ... giving us their so called ' intellectually' ugly..unflattering...unrealistic, obsolete silhouettes, uninspiring colours and fabrics that could never ever be ' translated' by the industry....Designs in which no woman in her right, sober and sounded mind would ever want to be caught dead...as in DEAD !.........but then we have the really exciting, new, less new , known and less well known innovators and creators of FASHION who unfortunately cannot beat the big ELEPHANTS guarding the ports of ' FASHION CITY '...and let them take their well deserved place at the top of the 'tower '...of FASHION

And I might know nothing but why kid ourselves when the ' EMPERORS, KINGS & QUEENS '...just seem to have lost their grip on their ' subject' and are not able anymore to foresee the future.....As the saying goes... 'HISTORY always repeats itself '....:):) To simplistic ?.....Think twice....

PS. My sincere apologies to anyone who might feel offended....I'm just ventilating a 'naive' point of view and a 'curious' perception.....as always :)

I was checking out the stores, the high ends, low ends, there's nothing really good and interesting out there, it's recycling the 80's, boring stuff. I think Asia has interesting fashion out now just that they don't get the kind of international coverage. China, Southeast Asia, India, they are hungry for new talents and exploding with ideas and opportunities.

I think in a few years fashion will be really exciting again, the new generation is a global community, fashion won't be dictated by coverages from Vogue, the online magazines, youtube, everything is tossing the concept of high end and low end upside down, the new generation shares global vocabularies thanks to technology, there are new and much cheaper ways to showcase designers work, and get instant global exposure, with the bloggers and myspace. I feel really optimistic.

I guess within a decade that will happen. Just so that many Asians are dependently looking up to the western influenced style that is widespread and well received...even the standard of beauty is still highly western influenced. It'll be good to see more chinese/japanese/koreans up the international runways too...

Galileo and Kawai I totally agree with you. I also have that feeling of boredom about fashion. All I can see is vintage here and there. And I hate the 1980s style so much! We are in 2007, but I have the feeling we are in 1987! When I see a girl with and Ipod and a Nintendo DS while wearing a retro dress, I have the feeling that is a time-machine mistake of some sort.
Copying from past is easier than trying to create something new. And if the industry supports this way of "design"...then designers will finish creating their collections with Barbie Fashion designer!

..somehow they seem to have lost focus and the element of surprise....there are so many underground and less underground designers that are more tuned to the vibes of today's generation...but they don't seem to get the support of the industry in a large scale.....so much new positive energy !.. but it is really hard for them in such complex business.....it is all about who can add ceros at the end of the figures at the pace of a money printing machine...and as fast as possible...
Fashion is organic....where to have vision and being well tuned to today's developments is the key to innovation ..... to innovative fashion.....

Fashion is a reflection of time and culture. Why do the young people embrace the 80's look? What's uniquely their own in terms of fashion? There's new design concepts when you look at the mobile phones and ipod, these are all inspirations that could work into fashion.

Who's reflection on the time and culture? Do you think fashion is a medium that is particular adept at doing this?

Young people often seem to have a particular interest in the time around their birth i.e. 1980s
