Hey Everyone,

I am really wanting to go to school and study Fashion design, however I have very little idea what an ideal portfolio consists of. How many peices, all drawings? All garments? shot in documentation form or spread form? Help help!

Ideally I would like to go to Parsons, Central Saint Martins, or NY Fashion Institute.
Can anyone help?

What should be in your portfolio is a minimum of eight collections: 4 spring/summer, 4 fall/winter. Each group in your collections should have a minimum of 4 to 6 developed corresponding looks, neatly rendered and colored. You should also have an inspiration page that precedes each group that express your thoughts, ideas and inspiration for each collection. The page following your rendered ideas should display your flats (technical line drawing of your garments) your flats should show every design detail and construction of each garment. You should also display a sample of the fabric you choose to design your creation in, this helps the person viewing your portfolio to get an idea of your fabric knowledge and taste level, you can display them on the same page as your designs or on a separate page, the choice is up to you. Too take your portfolio to the next level from the basic level I just describe to you, you could add two or three pages of accessories designs or better yet you could add the accessories page at the end of each group in your spring/summer, fall/winter collections. Good luck I hope this information helps.
