Surly fashion is as much art as anything else, it comes from a plan or scetch idea, the paturns are drawn or painted in scetch form or ideas book, and then taken from that in to the cut of matterial and printed design so I do not see where the argument staement is to question weather fashion is art. Even a new car or manufactured object can be defined as art, it comes from an idea, drawn up as a plan and then transferd from the drawing board to the object of choice. You might find Art in museums, but there can also be design, bi-planes, fossils... Is a dinosaur Art? I can't see any reason why fashion shouldn't be found in museums, but whether it's Art or not is a seperate question, isn't it?

It would be great to see fashion in museums as art,A few years ago I think it was the V&A that put on the Versace exhibition and it was highly popular. In a sort of way Tusauds puts on a fashion show with the wax sculputres of people in its museum,

museums are actually inappropriately designed to engage in 'art' it's rather like going to a stuffy dinner party and you're afraid to spill the wine on the rug. yohji yamamoto's recent exhibition Juste des Vetements (Just Clothes) is a good example of not just fashion, but art properly displayed. it invites museum goers to see his creative process by replicating his studio in all it's messy glory. also the exhibition wishes to desolve the barrier between viewer and artifact by allowing the garments to be touched. it seems a very unpretentious way to go about a fashion exhibit, and because clothes are meant to be worn, it only makes sense they should be interacted with.
