forgive my ignorance but how are you going to make the smell of sweat etc smell good? or is that not important? i am so excited to find out what violence actually smells like but i cant imagine it being a "pleasant" scent- perhaps this is to do with the fact that i once watched a documentary program that had accounts of American soldiers that were fighting in Iraq and even though I only watched 3 mens accounts, all three of the men mentioned SMELL in one way or another. Smell in all 3 cases was mentioned in a negative context, referring to some kind of "SMELL OF VIOLENCE" or stenches of the fighting and peoples' wounds

This book talks about how peoples raw contents eg bile, sweat etc all smell the same regardless of where they are from or how old they are or what they do... I havent read it but it got tons of great reviews

also Suskind's book - Das Parfum is quite an amazing story about SCENT AND VIOLENCE. The main character thinks he is born lacking a personal odour so he gets obsessed with making the perfect scent that will make him fully human. He creates perfumes—based on pheromones—that manipulate human emotions, murdering 25 girls to take their scent.

i think i saw the same programme - this guy was talking about how the smell of war and combat is akin to rotting flesh, blood and shit. Nice. Sorry Nick, but I think you picked the wrong time for this: this ain't exactly no credit crunch perfume!

hey, you guys have got me thinking, how about a perfume called 'RAPE'?!!
You could send a hooker a pair of vacuum-fresh knickers, pay someone to rape her and sample the quimmy tones her vag secretes on enforced penetration! Then you could get mad Sissel to develop it in a white pseudo-lab with *process* pictures of her grimacing, 'thatz good cunt, good cunt, do you smell zat?!!' Another trademark loooong and pointless interview will follow for a legion of poor education-starved fashion students to take notes on for their po-mo theses - talk about a service to education. And don't forget, it would all be for free!!!
Then you could flog the stuff online while keeping us all informed on the challenges to face anyone selling ugly smell-concepts during periods of economic downturn.. and even have a studio back-and-forth blog about it...and perhaps a party where everyone can wear the perfume and with any luck, induce sexual predation on the way home! Yay!
I guess we'll have to settle for 'violence' perfume instead because it's so much more tasteful. It's just the kind of thing I'll be buying my daughter for Xmas - no doubt you too?

FASCINATING , IMAGINATIVE , CLEVER and TOTALLY FULL of eloquence at its best !... I'm wondering whether you enjoy writing such denigrating 'fantasy' or if you indeed care about your daughter's choice of perfume .... let's hope she doesn't have to read such a " CHEERFUL " ..... " taste " and "CONCERN" about VIOLENCE against woman ..... and in the matters of what her father ' doesn't enjoy ' writing in a public forums, when it comes to disagree with someone's else RIGHT to PRODUCE what he or she wants ........ never mind who is involved in the project .
GOT me curious about what you produce ? ... Not that it matters at all .... LOL !!
I'm wondering what is worst .... your depicting of gory details or the
fact that you seem to be a rather VIOLENT character as in ... full of ANGER as to commit verbal VIOLENCE for whatever reason hiding in TOTAL ANONYMITY ....
BRAVE VERY BRAVE ! ... A very BRAVE PRODUCER !.... I suppose the man's fragrance " MANLY and COURAGEOUS " is your preference and choice .... Perhaps you would care to tell us where can we find that one for FATHER"S DAY ? ...
I wonder , indeed , what is the difference between PHYSICAL VIOLENCE and VERBAL VIOLENCE ... I suppose verbal violence must have the smell of bad breath as to make you sick ... or not ?

Dear Unnamed producer and Bamia,
it is always deeply unpleasant and hurtful to be attacked or criticized. Rejection is just as painful for me as anyone else. That being said I would have been incredibly naive if I had thought that the Violence project was not going to draw some pretty harsh criticism. You may indeed hate my work and feel that what i produce is out of date or not up to your standards or that it is generally not to your liking and taste. I am sorry but you can appreciate I can do very little about that.
God knows there are times when i want to give up and that I don't achieve the goals i set for myself, I would say I fail more than i succeed.
I could stop the Violence project but just giving up because it is a difficult project to explain really does seem feeble. Like a lot on SHOWstudio it is an experiment and without trying things it is hard to progress. Some experiments are better than others but it is hard to tell that until you have completed them.
I could stop SHOWstudio , live my life quite happily saving the money I make elsewhere for myself, I could be thinking "do I really need this grief?"However that just doesn't seem right either.
Everybody does what they think is the right thing to do with the money they earn and with me I wanted to create a platform across which people could express themselves and that includes you.
Bamia you describe yourself as an artist so please lets have you contribute to SHOWstudio. Many of the projects have open submissions .
Unnamed producer we all want our children to grow up reflecting the world as we want it to be, but realistically our children reflect the world that is really out there in all its beauty and in all its ugliness.
Specifically with Violence I can offer more explanation perhaps that is my first failure with this project, but I am not trying to win you over or convince you just I would like to be judged fairly.
Over the years I have worked on the imagery for many perfumes that you might indeed wear or have bought for someone else.
Nearly all these perfumes are based on a highly romantic vision all smelling of flowers, like jasmine, and rose,or with undertones of sandalwood or citrus and evoke dreamlike memories.(You should really see the descriptions we get sent!) Well all that is fine but I simply feel that life has got to be more interesting and varied than that somewhat Mills and Boon type of approach.
Surely you would agree ?
Violence is so much a part of our culture and to ignore its presence or not try and understand our love of it does appear blinkered .
This weekend for example in Britain we are inundated with the imagery from the latest Bond film, its in every weekend papers . on t.v. everywhere. Now you could hardly get a more violent portrayal of a man than the latest Bond.
On Friday night I watched fights breaking out in my local town center that are accepted now with total normality and i came home and watched the reports of more deaths in Afghanistan on the BBC 24 news.
So to turn my back on all that and just to keep on creating images of pretty floral memories would be like being fashions version of a Stepford wife, and to be truthful with you that is what certain parts of the fashion world all to often makes me feel like. Stupid irrelevant and dumb!
You might indeed be thinking "yeah yeah that is all fine but he's just doing this to make some money by doing an 'outrageous' and attention grabbing project ". My guess is that we will probably will not sell more than a 10 bottles if that.
However in the highly unlikely case that somehow this does surprise everybody and become a huge commercial success it would be entirely fitting to donate part of the proceeds to Amnesty International or a safe house for battered wives for example, and use any thing else to help SHOWstudio become the amazing platform I think it so richly deserves to be. And i would very much hope you would be part of that.
