YOUR FAVOURITE

Showing messages 1–9 of 9

Hi everyone!

I´d like to know what´s the garment that caught your attention so far from the ones sent for the "Bring and buy" project.

Mine is the cape who sent Fumie Kimura. I think it´s very "kawai" (cute in japanese).

See you!

I think I like the frilly pantaloons most (probably because it's the sort of thing I could never get away with wearing) but I don't feel able to say it's my favourite because its history isn't particularly interesting. I thought the whole point was that the things that we chose to send had to have had a life, or that something significant had happened to the owners in them. What disappoints me about so many of the items that have sent in is either the emphasis is placed on fashionista factor, or people have been incredibly coy. Where are the stories?

It's made me hesitate to send anything.

For Kamille:
The stylists involve in the project will make a selection, that´s what I-D statement said.

For f:lux:
Yes, I understand you are interested in the story behind each garment. I recognize I´m a little bit cold about it, although it´s funny to read what everyone wrote about his/her garment; my attention is focused onto cuts and fabrics. I have a more technical point of view about it, but anyway it´s a pity you cannot tell the story of a garment when someone´s wearing it.

See you!

I'm in love with that maids dress. It's so simple but the visual code that it sends is powerful - makes me think of old men and seedy motels. I also liked the story that went with it.
I'm a bit disappointed no one has chosen to send photo's of themselves in their garments, though! I love being able to see who sent what, and how they wore it. The garments have so much more character once they're on someone...
I'm wishing now I'd sent the pasties I wore to the ameteur burlesque night at Lee's Palace!

My favourite too was the maid's garment.

I sent in my first Issey Miyake piece. Gosh, I was probably too young at that time. There's quite a few memories behind what I sent but sady, I haven't used it say "publicly". I just didn't have the balls. I've always kept it at the back of the closet, wishfully thinking one day I'll get the chance to wear it. Well, fast forward many years later, it's still there.

I have other garments I wanted to send but for some reason, I just had a hard time parting with them. I think there's always a story in each and every garment that we have, regardless of its origin/designer/fabric/whatever (my lucky undies, yes, with holes, that after 8 years, I still use whenever I need, say, "luck"). It's human to be selfish I think, and in this process (choosing/sending what is SUPPOSED to be your FAVOURITE garment) it further validates our selfishness.

We're not all Mother Theresa, may god bless her soul.

Nick Knight's shirt...I fell in love with them during the DMU, DMD project, I have to have it. I wish they flipped it around in the video they shot, it's the possibility of that back pleat zooming down that made my heart skip a beat...

OK... I still really like the frilly pantaloons. And I can't wait to see that inflatable jacket on somebody - but stipulating that it can't be customised seems like cheating! So, unless there's any more stuff to come in, my final vote goes to the Vivienne Westwood men's jacket, because I like the story (didn't twig before because I had problems reading a lot of the texts) as much as the jacket itself. Hope it raises lots of money for Oxfam!

And it's set me thinking. If my own dress sense were better might I not have systematically attracted such scruffy bastards? Hmm...
