I think the innovation alone is worth a shed load of praise. The idea is original as it comes.
I can't say I have been able to relate to the project a great deal, but none the less I'm sure there are laods who can and I've still found it fascinating.
Good work!

i still don't understand it tho. I do appreciate its an intresting take on editorial fashion but i still need to beg the question, why?

it is a way through which we can re-interpret a garment and perhaps more importantly, a way that we can get a better sense of the experience of wearing a garment without actually having to look at it. Because for a start, when we wear something, we can't necessarily see it like the rest of the world can, can we? (actually that might be another area worthy of investigation - imagery of clothes from the perspective of the wearer, i.e clothes from the corner of your vision etc) (actually I think i have seen those spreads in iD - loads of sky and a tiny fleck of a purple chanel jacket in the corner - forget that concept, it always turns out annoying and pretentious. especially where you have all the stuff the model's wearing listed at the bottom of the page and all you can see is his hairy wrist and grimy fingernails)
the premise for this idea relies on two things - firstly, that we are so bombarded with images of fashion through magazines, newspapers and television, that the experience of looking at clothes has become commonplace and that it no longer elicits new sensations or reactions. in fact, we could almost think of it as being stretched as far as it will go and that our visual receptors have reached a kind of synaptic burnout. i mean, don't get me wrong, we'll never really get sick of looking - it's what we were born to do and god knows I would hate to lose my sight over any other sensory perception. It's just that maybe you can only look at clothes for so long before you might eventually feel like you've seen enough of them. Furthermore, looking always necessitates the dynamic of voyeur and object, object being more often than not another person, which some people, especially myself, a narcissist, can find troubling if forced to do for long enough at a time. (fucking models - why do they always get to wear the clothes etc etc) Clothes are designed to be in close proximity to human flesh so the constant intimation of a human physical presence can become problematic - i think this is the reason that clothes just are not art - they rely on people and when they're not on people, they are just empty shells and can't stand up on their own. (but actually, lets not get into that)
which brings me on to the second point. what has only been explored at a more undeveloped level in fashion imagery so far has been the idea of possession and commodity. Actually, come to think of it I think it does appear quite a lot in accessories and perfume advertising. Especially bags. Selfridges also use a cunning ploy at Sale time *i shop therefore i am* which is quite amusing. so basically, we don't want to look at clothes, we want to listen to them, alright?
No, no, no, I'm not finished. So maybe by hearing what clothes sound like we are exploring the experience of wearing them, literally, on us. It is a more intimate way of experiencing fashion and appreciating the kind of textures and materials that you might lose on a catwalk. Also, it kind of manages to bypass the whole envy issue because it's not about admiration in direct reference to a particular wearer or model but rather a shared experience of sensation.

thanks detlev
are you saying that fashion, as a mainly visual form, can also be experienced via sound, much like the way music is now experienced just as much in a visual form via videos/cd covers +++.
if so, that kind of makes sense,

maybe an interesting fashion film could be two people fucking but with one of them wearing a really 'noisy' dress, perhaps in an anechoic chamber, so you have all the primal sex noises mixed in with the dress noises. i quite like the idea of describing clothes as 'noisy'. oh, what a noisy jacket you have on - do tell your trousers to keep it down please.
