Yeah, I had that 'From the Hip' record but it got destroyed. It was really nice. No big deal though, I could go down to the used record store and buy another for $5. That's one thing that struck me while I was watching this. One of the tables I just bought the entire contents of on eBay for C$15. If it's mass-produced and easily obtained is it really worthy of being in a museum? I think it can be depending on the context of the presentation. Maybe that's one of the controversies surrounding the Design Museum?
It's funny, shortly after I watched this I came across the definition of Bauhaus- 'to design things to improve the life of the proletariat'. I'm not an art student so I didn't already know this, but it's what I've always admired Saville for - I kind of thought it was his idea!
I really enjoyed this, I've been a big Saville fan since age 13 when I noticed the Roxy Music and Ultravox records in my parents collection and thinking 'wow, I like this Saville guy - why can't everything look this good?'
Can't wait to watch reel 3!
