Stella McCartney is a fashion designer who was born and raised in London. After graduating with a degree in Fashion Design from Central St Martins, her final collection was bought by stores such as Browns, Joseph, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus. She immediately launched her own line, combining her signature style of sharp tailoring and sexy femininity with her strict policy to not use leather or fur in her designs. After only two collections, in 1997 she was appointed the creative director of the house of Chloe in Paris. In April 2001, McCartney launched her own fashion house under her name in a joint venture with Gucci Group. Her first collection debuted at the Spring/ Summer 2002 shows in Paris. As well as the women’s ready-to-wear range, the label now includes accessories, eyewear and the ‘Stella’ fragrance. McCartney has three flagship stores in Manhattan, London and in Hollywood and her collection is also distributed in over forty countries. In addition to her own range, she has designed costumes for Madonna’s ‘Reinvention Tour’, Annie Lennox’s summer concert tour and for Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law’s characters in the film ‘Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow’ as well as a sports performance collection for women ‘Adidas by Stella McCartney’ and most recently a special one-off collection for Swedish high street retailer H&M. She has collaborated with various including Gary Hume on a range of handmade T-shirts and dresses in aid of RAWA, David Remfry on her first advertising campaign, cartoonist Robert Crumb and Jeff Koons. McCartney has received various awards including VH1/Vogue Fashion and the Music 2000 Designer of the Year, Glamour Award for Best Designer of the Year and the 2005 Organic Style Woman of the Year Award.
