Karni Arieli is a photographer based in London. Born in Israel 1974. Arieli was conscripted to take part in two years compulsory army service, after which she did a six-month Photography course at Liverpool University. She completed her studies at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, graduating in 2001 with a BA in Photography. Arieli went on to work as a freelance fashion and portrait photographer for publications in Israel, including Ha'aretz National newspaper. In 2002 she moved to London to concentrate on fashion work for magazines such as Fashionline, Flux and 125 as well as some personal portrait work. 'Pictured' magazine featured her in their 'Underexposed' section in 2003. She continues to produce work for magazines, and in 2005 shot a music promo for the band 'AM', which led to her appointment as director of Flynn Production Company, London. Arieli's work is often characterized by a narrative base, and combines a dark quality with a sense of humour.
