Peter Jensen is a Danish born, London-based designer. He has trained in various fields, including embroidery and graphic design, and graduated from Central St. Martin's in MA Fashion Design Menswear in 1999. Two years later, following the success of his distinctive menswear collections in Paris, Jensen moved into womenswear design and has shown the two simultaneously at London Fashion Week ever since. His designs incorporate a celebratory approach to individuality, mischievous humour and an acute attention to detail, rendering them unconventional yet ultimately wearable. Jensen’s ‘muses’ have wildly ranged from the bird-like Sissy Spacek, or identity-teasing New York artist Cindy Sherman, to the magisterial Helena Rubinstein, or thoroughly disgraced Olympic ice-skater Tonya Harding (the latter even inspiring Jensen to present the collection at an ice rink, as a tongue in cheek tribute to her notorious antics). In collaborative work, Jensen has designed capsule collections for a range of fashion outlets including Topshop, Topman, Fred Perry, Ebonyivory, Falbe, Buddahood and B-Store. His designs are sold worldwide and can be found in B-Store London, Opening Ceremony New York, Side by Side Tokyo and UK Style in Moscow. A selection of Jensen’s work from his Spring/Summer '08 collection ‘Mink’ can also be found in the archive of filmmaker John Waters, at Wesleyan University, Connecticut.
