Carlo Brandelli was born in London and works as a designer. The son of Italian parents, his family has a history of involvement in luxury brands and he grew up surrounded by tailors and artisans in Italy and England. In the early 1990s Brandelli launched the seminal menswear brand ‘Squire’. A new aesthetic was born where fashion and art collided, and at the epicentre in 1997 was the unique Squire art gallery space in Mayfair. He collaborated with many of the leading figures in design spanning music, film and art worlds including Peter Saville and Nick Knight, offering a truly modern style which redefined menswear design. Clients included Massive Attack, Jude Law, Helmut Lang and Alexander Mcqueen. Disillusioned with fashion imagery and his many imitators, a return to hand made craft and bespoke tailoring provided a break from the fashion spotlight. In October 2003, Carlo joined Kilgour of Savile Row full time as Creative Director, the brief ‘to launch and create a luxurious and elegant English Menswear brand’. The collections and designs have received several awards including Menswear Designer of the Year from the British Fashion Council in 2006.
