Kate appears at LAX with no make up on and all the papers act horrified and yet here she is being a model,well lit made up retouched and you are complaining she is too pretty! It doesn't seem like she can win poor girl.

I don't think that she is chosen .... because she is just a pretty face !. Can you mention one model that has managed today to catch the public's imagination ? ....... the following sentence proves indeed that her ' magic ' appeal is undeniable , whether we like it, agree or not ...: " using her gaurantees sales, even with a terrible layout, so many people would buy the magazine because she is on the cover, not because they think it's cool layout or if the magazine is interesting. " and SALES is what it is all about , the essence of the magazine ....... but then let's be fair and not blame her or the magazine for that matter .... but the PUBLIC self who very eagerly wants a 'piece' of the fantasy ...... but then again it is all about ... giving the public the freedom to buy what they want ....

How many models wouldn't dream of having such staying-power-appeal .... and to be able to evoke visual poetry ... ?

For the Interview cover-Tang Wei, she just been pronounced HK citizen so she is allowed to work with the film/entertainment industry around the world. She was banned to work for the nude scenes she had done in mainland China in "Lust, Caution", and she is one of the most provocative, anticipated actresses in the global cinema scene now.

A great choice for CHINA ! ... but a choice of no real significance outside CHINA, read ' unknown ' ... sorry KA WAI but you do seem sometimes rather 'one way' bias .... a pity for someone who does seem to be a world citizen and who by living in the west would be able to understand why KATE MOSS is their choice , read SALES, whether we like her or not ..... She has just and simply passed the stage of the cliché word ... ' MODEL ' ... she is no longer a model !!! ... she is imbedded in the publics's sense of beauty, style, glamour, etc .... whatever that may mean .

The fim may appear 'pretty' .. 'to pretty' .... but that is not what makes the film appealing or hateful ... it is KATE giving it ' life' .... artist director aside !

I think it is rather .... intriguing .... that she is the only one who manages to increase the numbers of post at such a rapid tempo .... I don't think that Tang Wei, however wonderfully talented she may be as an actress could manage to break KATE MOSS's records in the matter of selling a fashion magazine in the west ... but in CHINA I'm sure she gets the record she deserves .... and that is GREAT !!

Give us a more realistic choice .... just out of curiosity ???

Kate is a better model than when she started, but I think this icon thing has taken on a life of its own, regardless of how she performs on the job, people have casted their opinions of her based on all the stuff written on her, mostly invented by the paz, and this image is in some ways in her control but in many ways not.

She just performs a great job and carries it with absolute precision, she gives the photographers top value for their money ... it comes natural to her ... ! She can be Marilyn but a la MOSS , she can pose ' a la Dietrich ' but with that MOSS allure and tongue-in-cheek effect ...... we see ' Marilyn ' we see ' Dietrich' but in realty we just see that SHE IS KATE fooling us with great finesse .... just magic !.

Please do tell us which model you believe can carry such visual performance with great ease and absolute conviction ?

I think PARIS HILTON ( by the way an ' ICON ' fitted for a Jeff Koons'... Personally I really rather enjoy Galileos posts. She(?) is always trying to push people to respond to topics on this forum in an intelligent way, and I like the referencing and imagery she brings in.

In this bad economy, perhaps is a good time to explore new faces. Isabella Rossellini first got her big Vogue cover at the age of 28. She was just a reporter for Italian television station at the time, and was asked to do a cover shoot and then a new star was born. Sometimes magazines need to take more chances to spread the opportunities around more. There are 12 covers a year, at least 3 covers a year go to Kate Moss for the last 3 years, maybe 5 to 6 covers go to actresses, that only leaves 3 maybe 4 covers for new models. It's about sales, but sometimes it's about giving opportunities to newcomers as well, in order to create new interests, new blood, new trends. Even have Kate Moss do a cover with a lesser known model would immediately raise the profile of the the other model, and makes the cover look a little different and more interesting too-in my view.

I often find many people who adore Kate Moss to be a bit obsessive. Their passion to defend her(she is a commercial commodity, even her name is registered trademark, like McDonald's, her face and image is a product, as any commercial products, are in the position to be critiqued)says volume about people and our society's attitude toward celebrities who are promoted, crafted, manipulated and created by tabloid magazines, fashion magazines, junk magazines. My mere statement at the beginning of this thread was referring to not Kate Moss looks of being "pretty, too pretty", but I was referring to the whole look, the whole package of the short film, and my other statements were still not about attacking Moss, if one reads carefully, it's my feelings about the media overusing her in order to sell. The media since the scandal, have and is still spinning the Kate Moss image in order to generate revenue-more power to them. I do think people have gotten a bit brain washed by the constant bombardment of Kate daily, on the internet, in almost every single junk magazine. If I criticize the over using of Kate, it's because I think the media is becoming very uncreative and limited. Although in our stark economy Kate is a safe bet to generate sales, there must be some actresses and entertainers, or even some other rising models, who really need the opportunity for more exposure, more so than Kate Moss does. It's interesting that my post from an earlier thread regarding photo shoot with Kate by Nick for Topshop premiere collection in UK Vogue would be read as a negative. I praised her work right from the start of the post, that photoshoot was really very well done, from Kate's body language to the small details of lighting, makeup and hair. It's just another proof of some people's obsession to select what they want to hear, their eyes go right to the negative as an instant reflex. I think it's pointless to win people's personal feelings over on this topic regarding Kate Moss, it's so individual, there's no right or wrong, it's a preference of taste and choice for a fashion cover, that's all, and if Galileo could critcize other people's choices, why other people can't criticize the use of Kate Moss? I think the artwork, the statue of Kate was a money and attention grabbing piece of work. That's just my personal feeling as soon as I saw the news of it the very first time.
