'Real Closet' by Fumiko Imano
Fumiko Imano offers a whimsical, honest and refreshingly personal take on the Political Fashion question, using herself as the raw material to attempt to address the issues inevitably raised by our project brief.
very interesting mixture of messages that come from this film.Ms Imano looks so childlike and as if she is a real life character from a sci fi novel. Even the pen she uses looks like it is from a different world from her own. Her isolation which comes across in the film reminds me of the way children are depicted as if " in their own world " .
I am sure all this is intentionally and artfully part of the image that is constructed by by Ms Imano, and she uses it very well. I find it reminding me of worlds such as Bjorks, or Nic Roegs 'Man who fell to Earth' .Funny it always seems somehow a more desirable place than our own.
And all shot on her Mac icamera .Wasn't it Spielberg who said soon some kid will make a feature length movie on their cam corder? Well Fumiko Imano what are you waiting for? I would go and see it.
