POLITICAL FASHION: ‘Style Wars’ by House of Diehl
Political Fashion as ‘Style War’? This is the proposal by New-York based House of Diehl, combining catwalk with catfight. ‘Style Wars’ comments on competition and sacrifice (of hair, at least) in the highest of sartorial stakes. The motto? You’re only as good as your next ensemble.
Thank god for another believable statement. Aside from the incredible “Red Shoes”, this project has generally shown Political Fashion to be an oxymoron: vagueness and veneer trying to” act” meaningful. As somebody mentioned in an earlier chat – it’s not political if you’re not saying anything.
So I’m glad to see another documentary-style piece adding some weight—Even if it is a little self-promo, it makes you believe the punk ideal lives on.
