Fashion Rocks: The Best Bits?

The big crowd-pleasers were obviously Iggy Pop, Beth Ditto and Whitney Houston (all pictured below), as well as Dame Edna, would you believe. But the real fashion moment for me was Valentino's swansong 'Lifetime Achievement' moment, when Gwyneth Paltrow arrived to give his his crystalline tribute.

They played a video montage of his career highlights on the monitors behind the arc of glamorously dressed models and it truly was astonishing: Jackie Onassis, Grace Kelly, 70s glamazons, 90s starlets - he really has dressed them all during his five decades in fashion. As he took his bow, there was a loud 'Bravo!' being shouted repeatedly from one of the boxes. We all looked up and who was it but Tom Ford himself, who could certainly identify with the great stamina and talent it takes to keep you at the top for that length of time. All very touching, until you noticed him defying the companion who was trying to restrain him for long enough for one of the Channel 4 steady cams to swing round and make sure it was recorded for Saturday night's TV broadcast...
