TRANSMISSIONS: Glittering Ground
This evening versatile artist Roger Hiorns presents a specially commissioned performance work at Camden Arts Centre in London. Part of a series of events called 'Glittering Ground', Roger Hiorns' contribution is a performance that aims to "simultaneously attract and repel the viewer". SHOWstudio video assitant Anna Gudbrandsdottir is going to go and record how Hiorns might achieve this (promised is an element of both light and music), but judging by Hiorns past practice anything might go. In 2005 he took an outdoor sculptural commision from Tate Britain to great ends by creating a wide deserted streetscene -which he entiled "Vauxhall"- at the centre of which was a bleak but mesmerising flaming drainhole: a brilliant twist on public scultpure (pictured). The performance starts this evening at 7pm GMT.
Sometime ago I was in a ‘brain storm’ conversation about the current cult status of today’s “glittery “ vague, blur talent celebrities that have become well out of proportions...etc ..etc.....a girl then suggested a vary drastic symbolic metaphor for that mood ...a methafor that until now no well known/unknown artist has used to depict the value of the cult syndrome.....her suggestion was......’ASHES to ASHES ’..........Roger Hiors work " Glittery Ground" reminds me of that idea..........
