A Magazine curated by Jun Takahashi

With previous editions of A Magazine cleverly and successfully guest-edited by designers Maison Martin Margiela, Yohji Yamamoto and Haider Ackermann, the designer invited to curate the fourth issue of the Belgian fashion magazine has a lot to live up to. Jun Takashi, the designer at the helm of Undercover, has certainly stepped up to the challenge, inviting his reader to step inside what editor Nathalie Ours fittingly describes as ‘U-world’. An understated spot-varnish treated ‘A’ cover marks the beginning of a particularly impressive issue, full of the weird and wonderfulness that has become synonymous with the thirty seven year-old designer. Printed on varying, carefully considered paper stock, the thoroughly documentative issue comprises scanned pages from his personal scrapbooks featuring inspirational curio (scientific brain diagrams, Pantone colour squares, Toad of Toad Hall stickers), surreal “I am a Hair” still lives that sit alongside works created by a well-chosen selection of contributors including his one-time mentor Rei Kawakubo, photographer Paolo Roversi and Maison Martin Margiela.

Imagine then our delight, when flicking through the new issue, we spotted Undercover’s ‘WE MAKE NOISE NOT CLOTHES’ advertising slogan for the A/W ’06-7 season which is perfectly in tune (and possibly inspired?…) by our recent Anechoic collections story! To discover exactly what kind of noise an Undercover garment (in this instance, a spectacular cock feather jacket and trouser set) makes, you can play on our Sound of Clothes: Anechoic Interactive or view the specially created films, which will be posted on the site later this week.
